Most people today know they need vitamin D for healthy bones—but trying to get that vitamin D from the sun instead of food could be a big mistake. According to new research from the American Academy of Dermatology, the premature aging and risk of skin cancer that accompanies UV exposure is not worth the potential vitamin benefits. A better way to boost your bone health, says the AAD, is by taking supplements or eating foods like fortified milk, cheeses and yogurt; fortified cereals; and oily fish like salmon and tuna.
